SISSEL EDELBO

THE CORE OF SISSEL EDELBO IS UP-CYCLING OF VINTAGE SARIS AND A LOVE FOR INDIAN CULTURE. BUYING OUR CLOTHES IS SUPPORTING A SUSTAINABLE, VIBRANT FUTURE FOR THE FASHION INDUSTRY AND THE WORLD. EACH PIECE TELLS THE STORY OF THE INDIAN HERITAGE AND THE AMAZING WOMEN, ALL DRESSED IN THEIR TRADITIONAL VIBRANT SILK SARIS.

We mix print and mystery with a simple nordic cut, so our customers can choose sustainable clothes and enable the story of the saris to continue. The saris are all unique and different in both weaving and quality. For us it is essential that they are up-cycled, and we put great effort and joy in selecting the most beautiful in pattern, color and quality

Sissel Edelbo has existed since 2004. The two visionary owners of the brand are Jeanne Sissel Thomsen and Christina Edelbo Petersen.

Their vision is to produce unique pieces made from beautiful vintage saris and adding new life and use to a traditional cultural fabric through modern cuts and silhouettes. The reuse of these antique sari fabrics is also a way of production that is friendly to the environment. Every single sari used in the SISSEL EDELBO collections is handpicked by one or both owners to procure just the right prints and colours for their garments.

STATEMENT TEES

We couldn’t be more proud to present a new sustainable product in SISSEL EDELBO: Tees made in TENCEL®.

TENCEL® is the ‘fiber of the future’. The fiber is a lyocell fiber which is delicate and soft and made of FSC-certified wood from sustainably grown trees. The unique production process recycles almost 100% of the solvent used in a closed loop system.

This special process received the “European Award for the Environment” from the European Union.

We have found a highly ethical manufacturer that cares for their workers and our environment. They take care in adopting environmentally friendly production methods throughout the whole manufacturing process. Furthermore, all their factories ́ and units ́ electricity is powered by green electricity from wind turbines.

ZERO WASTE
_

As a sustainable brand we always work with different solutions to limit waste. Our Zero Waste concept has the goal to use the entire vintage sari we up-cycle for our garments, thus we use the leftover cuttings of fabric for our small items such as hairbands, belts and scarfs.

In our previous collection as well as our Fall-Winter 17 and Christmas 17 collection, we have expanded the Zero Waste concept to our signature kimonos. Our kimonos are usually made from one sari, but a big selection of saris have errors or holes which means they don’t offer enough fabric for a whole style but only smaller cuttings. Therefore, we have chosen three of our kimono styles as well as one new dress to be made from multiple saris - that normally wouldn’t qualify. The beautiful result of these combination-pieces can be seen on our Lotus short Mix kimono, Magnolia long Mix kimono, Morning Glory long pocket Mix kimono and Hope l/s dress. This way any sari with errors can be used for our designs and we continue to limit waste to a new level.
